Stolen Bikes on the Rise

This article is likely a result of a dirtbike robbery that happened to one of our vintage racing brothers last week.

What are you all doing to protect your bikes?

That should keep them busy long enough, or just turn them away to something easier.

No Gas or wheels and chained together.
gas goes in the car and wheels go in the basement

IMO noise is the best way to keep the thieves from getting anything. Locks can be cut or grinded and doors easily broken. While removing critical parts is another way it is also a PITA if you just want to go for a ride or the kids want to play with their bikes in the yard. A 110+ db siren blaring at 2AM will turn those punks right around and make them run for their stolen getaway vehicle.

I've also considered "chipping" my bikes but haven't found a product that is ideally suited for not having to charge or swap batteries or something along that lines.

I keep posting this Harbor Freight alarm on the stolen bike Facebook posts. It is only effective when you're home, but will wake you up. The only down side is if mounted outside, your local night critter with set it off, but better than being out several grand in bikes! https://www.harborfreight.com/wireless- ... gg_q=alarm

After it alarms you can dial 911 or 1911, your choice!

I too take the rear wheel off my bikes and put them in the basement and make sure the axels aren't available.
Won't stop a determined thief, but it would deter a joy riding bozo

The batteries in mine last almost a year unless we get long weeks in the teens. The receiver can take a plugin adaptor.

I use a wireless alarm as well. Soon, a webcam will be in the barn so I can look to see what's happening. Or just stare at my bikes when I'm lonely. My wireless alarm has only had 2 or 3 false alarms, most likely critters looking for shelter.

Reolink makes rechargeable battery powered wifi cameras. The A/C powered ones are better as long as you have an outlet near by. There is a phone and PC app for them and you can set up email push notifications.
